Both the weft and warp threads are dyed black before weaving (rope dyed), and the Wabash pattern is then bleached out of the finished fabric. This gives the black fabric a wonderful fade and the dots do not fade. The classic Wabash pattern has its origins in the work clothes of railway workers in the 1930s and 1940s.
