Art Deco Tiger's Eye Book Compass Pendant signet ring people engaged in mysterious tasksDATE: Art Deco, c. 1920 An unusual antique compass pendant dating from the Art Deco era, circa 1920. It's carved from a single piece of tiger's eye, formed in the shape of a book, and set in the middle with a (working!) miniature compass. The shimmery, lustrous appearance displayed by tiger's eye is known as chatoyance (from the French for cat's eye), caused by light reflecting off parallel amphibole fibres that intergrew with the quartz.
